Bypass of the sulfur recovery unit [SFU] to the flare during an unscheduled shutdown.
Refinery was not initially granted variance by LDEQ. Is currently requesting another variance to emit more sulfur dioxide while working to adjust process controls and equipment design.

Cause of Problem: Equipment Failure

Fire inside of a crude oil heater.
Oil picked up with vacuum truck and remaining oil recovered via oil skimmers. The incident resulted in a fire which was contained within the boundaries of the refinery. No injuries requiring hospitalization or fatalities occurred due to the emergency. Princeton personnel responded to extinguish the fire and contain any release that may have occurred with the assistance of the local fire department. The initial report stated approximately 50 gallons of crude oil was released onto the land, while the LDEQ incident report states 100 gallons of crude oil was released into the air.
