Cause: Cause is Unknown. An approximate 20' x 5" sheen was discovered at the end of the Calcasieu Refining Outfall Ditch. The facility had 8.10" of rainfall in less than 24 hours which could have resulted in some runoff leaving the facility and being the possible source of the sheen.

Notes: The hydrocarbon creating the sheen was unrecoverable. This incident will be discussed during this facility's next compliance evaluation inspection. On 9/21/13 at 14:16, an incident was reported to the National Response Center concerning a sheen in the Calcasieu River. The incident was reported by Don Johnson, Calcasieu Refining Environmental Manager. An approximate 20' X 5" sheen was discovered at the end of the Calcasieu Refining Outfall Ditch. According to Mr. Johnson, the facility had 8.10" of rainfall in less than 24 hours which could have resulted in some runoff leaving the facility and being the possible source of the sheen. The hydrocarbon creating the sheen was unrecoverable. This incident will be discussed during this facility's next compliance evaluation inspection. No refinery letter from the Calcasieu Refining Company was located by LABB as of 2/10/2014.
