Accident Classified As: No Information Given
A heater barge was running its heater and an expansion tank on board burped and sprayed approximately 50 gallons of heater oil onto the deck.
While the majority of the heater oil stayed on deck, about 1 cup released into the water (Mississippi River). An OSRO response crew was dispatched from Oil Mop, INC for cleanup of the deck on the barge. The sheen on the water was unrecoverable and dissipated naturally. The product recovered by absorbent pads were bagged. The contaminated absorbents were loaded into DOT drums for proper disposal.
