Accident Classified As: Reportable Quantity
A spill of approximately 6300 gallons of crude oil near Tank 98 due to pipe failure on crude charge line. Spill was caused by a pinhole leak on the #4 6-inch line. Spill was contained inside dike wall area of tank.
Failure of crude charge pipe caused release.
Material was isolated to stop leak then free product was vacuumed up and soil removed. Waste soil to be disposed under manifest to appropriate landfill. Soil samples were collected after clean-up. According to the results, Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon-Organic (TPH-O) was found to range from 353 mg/kg to 1431 mg/kg and Total Petroleum Hydrocarbon-Diesel (TPH-D) ranged from 245 mg/kg to 1485 mg/kg. Site will be forwarded to Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality's (LDEQs) remediation division due to elevated levels of TPH-D.
