Community complaint of "visible release of gas plume from stack, burning smell, extremely loud noise related to the discharge keeping residents awake even after 10:00pm". LDEQ contacted Jeff Bergeron, Environmental Adviser for Chalmette Refining, who stated that the noise was due to an underground steam line (600 psi) which developed a leak at this time, leading to the loud noise. The line was isolated and repairs will be made, according to Mr. Bergeron. He stated that the line contained only steam, and no odors were associated with the steam leaks.
