Accident Classified As: No Information Given
On March 9, 2014 at approximately 15:30, an underground line feeding the East Separator became restricted due to waxy material that got caught in the line. As a result, approximately 10 barrels of diesel was released from a manway on the road inside the plant. The release impacted an area of 10 ft by 30 ft southeast of the manway at the East Sump Separator area.
Restricted underground sewer lines resulted in spill.
The immediate corrective action taken was to clean up contaminated soil in the area. To prevent recurrence, the waxy material was cleaned out from the underground lines. Free liquids were removed from the road via vacuum truck. All contaminated soil removed from the site will be sent to Woolworth Landfill under appropriate manifest. At the time of LDEQ's inspection, stained soil spots were noted at various areas in the spill area. Facility had a previous 4 barrel slop oil spill in this same area on 2/27/15 (LDEQ incident 154175).
