Accident Classified As: Below Reportable Quantity (BRQ)
Initial El Paso sampling of the combined cooling tower return line indicated a leak rate of 16 lbs/day of hydrogen sulfide and 7 lbs/day of benzene. Additional sampling was performed on the individual cooling tower return lines that combine to become the main line that was initially tested. Results from this additional sampling of the three individual lines showed no active leak. With this additional information, it was determined that there were issues with the original sampling of the combined return line. Therefore, no reportable quantities were exceeded as a result of this event.
