Oil found floating on water inside the Tank 1523 firewall in Anchorage Tank Farm. Oil leaked from tank roof drain during heavy rain. A corroded leg sleeve was determined to be the leak source. Secondary cause noted as storms.
Release occurred due to unanticipated corrosion.
Tank roof drain blocked and absorbent boom deployed around tank. Vacuum truck used to remove floating oil. Leg sleeve will be repaired before returning tank to service. 3.9 barrels of oil was released which is RQ.
